Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information YASFRENCH collects, why, and what your rights are. YASFRENCH is the online French tutoring service run by Yas (“I”, “me”). If you have a question about your data, message me on WhatsApp at +44 7456 005404 or email bonjour@yasfrench.com.

This website

This website has no forms, no accounts, no cookies and no analytics or advertising trackers. To show you the site, a few technical details are processed automatically:

• Hosting. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
• Fonts. The site’s fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address.

When you contact me or book lessons

When you message me on WhatsApp, I receive your name and phone number as shown on WhatsApp, and anything you tell me. To arrange and teach lessons I may also keep:

• the student’s name, year group, level, exam board and learning goals
• lesson dates, progress notes and work set
• payment records

WhatsApp is run by Meta, so your messages are also covered by WhatsApp’s own privacy policy. Lessons take place on a video call platform we agree on, which has its own privacy policy too.

Why I use it

I use this information only to reply to you, arrange and teach lessons, keep track of progress, take payment and meet my legal obligations, such as keeping tax records. Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, the legal bases are performing our agreement (or taking steps to enter into one), my legitimate interest in running the tutoring service, and legal obligation.

Students under 18

Lessons for students under 18 are arranged with a parent or guardian, who provides the student’s details.

Sharing

I never sell your information or use it for advertising. It is shared only with the services needed to run lessons (such as WhatsApp, the video call platform and the payment provider), or when the law requires it.

How long I keep it

I keep lesson details while you are a student and delete them within 12 months of your last lesson, unless you ask me to delete them sooner. Payment records are kept for as long as tax law requires.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, or object to how it is used. Message me on WhatsApp or email bonjour@yasfrench.com and I will reply within one month. You can also complain to a data protection regulator: the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) in the UK, or the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie) in Ireland.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
